School Program

Individuals Served

Blue Cap's School Program is an Illinois State Board of Education approved program serving students with development disabilities age 3 through 21 with a diagnosis of autism, physical impairment, cognitive delay or other health impairments. Advocating and responding to our students' needs, interests and dreams are our primary focus. An Individualized Education Plan (IEP) is developed with functional goals for each student and updated annually to identify the most appropriate services. Students are grouped according to age and ability and educated with a high student/teacher ratio for maximum individual attention. Blue Cap School is a 179 day program with a 37 day summer school. All students are encouraged to participate in the summer session to maintain their skills.

Referral/Placement

Children are referred to Blue Cap by the school district in which they live. Each student must be registered in their home school district. The home school district and multidisciplinary team decide that the student will be placed outside the home district.

A referral packet of information is sent to a private school such as Blue Cap. Parents and districts are encouraged to tour our school to gain a better understanding of the services offered at Blue Cap.

Upon receiving the referral packet, Blue Cap's professional staff reviews the contents and discusses their conclusions with the home school district. Once the student is accepted, the appropriate paperwork is established and a start date is set. Our professional team assesses the needs of each individual student and builds a curriculum to support their academic success.

For more information regarding Blue Cap's School Program, please contact Jill Pertchi, School Principal, at 708/389-8137 Ext. 306 or by email to jillp@blue-cap.org.
